Hearing Set to Determine Burial for Ricky
Story Created: March 16, 2007
A petition was filed on Tuesday by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office to ask a judge to decide what should happen with Ricky Holland remains.
Unbelievably, he is still in an evidence locker over a year after his remains were located and months after his adoptive parents, Tim and Lisa Holland were found guilty and sentenced for his murder.
Probate Judge George Economy will hear the case April 13.
Quoting Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings, III in from Lansing State Journal article:
“…Prosecutor Stuart Dunnings III on late Tuesday afternoon said his office is being represented by East Lansing attorney George Brookhover, who has extensive experience in probate matters.
Dunnings said his office has concerns about burying the remains. “We want to preserve their evidentiary value,” he said…”
Stuart Dunnings went on to say in the article:
“…his office still is investigating the case.
“All of my questions have not been answered…”
One option the prosecutor’s office has discussed is burying Ricky in an above-ground crypt.
I don’t understand why a judge cannot appoint someone to be Ricky’s legal guardian in death and allow them to make Ricky’s final burial arrangements. I hate to say this but I believe part of the issue is who will pay for the burial. I don’t think Ingham County wants to foot the bill for the burial. It is the least they can do for Ricky at this point in my opinion.
