Lack of Attention to the Blogs

Story Created: June 18, 2007

I have been ill for the past few weeks and have been unable to keep up with the blogs. I was just released from the hospital on Friday and I am awaiting the results of tests. I am also facing surgery in the near future. What that surgery will entail depends in part the result of the tests.

Please be patient with me. I will be back to my normal blogging routine when I get my health back on track. One good thing is I quit smoking in late March and I am still cigarette free.

Thank you Casey. My surgery is not as serious as open-heart surgery. I hope your mother-in-law’s surgery goes well. This blog was a labor of love for Ricky and it gave him a voice.

  3. Sorry to hear you were ill and will have to face surgery. I sure hope everything goes well, and you have a quick recovery.

You said it right about a voice for Ricky. You have really done a lot in his name. Just think, if everyone were as committed as you are, I bet changes would be made for the children. If we only had 100 people like you.

    Caring,

Thanks. I went to the surgeon on Tuesday. The colon polyps were benign. I still have to have my gallbladder removed next week. While at the surgeon’s office he did a breast exam and there is a lump that he says needs to come out. I thought we could just do a one-stop surgery so to speak but he says no, it has to be two separate surgeries.

As far as my giving Ricky a voice, I did do that. I wish people were as committed as me for change. I believe there are many who are committed for change but the problem is they are all working separately. This issue really needs to go national in my opinion and federal funding needs to be cut from the states who do not overhaul their systems. I also believe as you do that the social workers need to be held accountable when children are harmed in the placements they are supervising.

Two cases were just settled, one in Nevada, where the children were awarded millions of dollars for the abuse they had to endure in foster care. I doubt the state of Michigan could afford too many of those law suits given the current financial woes.

  4. I would love the State to get sued a couple of times, then maybe, they would get the job done. It would be nice for the kids to get something for all the pain and suffering they go through.

I sure hope everything goes well for you with the surgeries. You sure got hit hard, with 2 having to be done so close to each other. Let us know in some way how you are doing.

  5. Trisha,
Not sure who you are but thanks for being there. I too know Tim Holland, from when he worked for me in the military and as a civilian. I can tell you, after raising six children and am now raising a grandson, there is no reason, excuse, or cause for anyone to do what Tim and Lisa did. My wife and I never knew Lisa, nor do we want to. As for Tim, well let’s just say God was watching and he got everything he deserved. I considered him a friend, but friends like that I will NEVER need. As for Ricky, we never knew him, but after following his short life, we feel like we did know him. He was a child reaching out and only found a frayed rope. God is with him now and God has millions of miles of rope made of love. He will never fall again.
    Thanks again Trisha.
    Dan

    Dan,

I am just someone who lives in California and became interested in Ricky’s disappearance. I could not believe he was considered a runaway at such a young age. There was just something about his case that made me want to do something for him. You are right. Ricky will never fall again.

  6. How did Ricky’s memorial turn out? I hope Casey had a good turn out. I could not in any way work it out to go. I was really upset that I couldn’t attend. If there is anything else for him, please let me know.

    Caring,

I have not heard anything from Casey so I don’t know how the memorial turned out. I hope it turned out well. I was hoping for another candle light vigil next weekend but I suppose that is not going to happen.

  7. I still think you should write a book about this case. You can do it. Not only do you know all there is about this case, those involved, as well as the aftermath, but you have the passion. Do it!

    Hi Deb,

Thank you for your kind words. I do know a lot about the case, but only to the extent that the rest of the general public knows by reading news accounts. I do not personally know any of the participants. I do have the passion but I would have a problem making a profit off of Ricky’s death. Also, I can think of a few people in a better position to write the story. Reporters: Jack Kresnak or Karen Bouffard. Perhaps now that the DA has announced his retirement he will consider writing the book about this case. My ultimate vote for writing the book would go to either of the aforementioned reporters.

  8. everything went good considering only 4 people showed up. but we will have something else for him some time in the future. im not sure when but we will. thanks for having this blog and i think it would be a good idea to right a book about it cuz i started reading a book and had to stop cuz i started crying. it’s called “a boy called it” and it was based on a true story

    Hi Casey,

I wish more people could have shown up for Ricky’s memorial service. I read the book, “A Child Called ‘It’”, and I agree it was a very painful book to read. I can only imagine how painful it must have been for you to try and read based on what we now know happened to your son. As far as a book being written, well I think the story would have to come from you. You would have to tell the story of how Ricky came in contact with the FIA and what transpired to cause your parental rights to be terminated. I think it is important to tell your side of the story because many people believe that all one need do when their child becomes a ward of the court is to follow steps a, b and c and your child is returned to you.

Please keep me informed if you have another event for Ricky so I can publicize it on the blog.

  9. Dan, I would be interested in knowing how Tim came across as a friend to you. Did he ever talk about Ricky? I would have a hard time, if I knew anyone like Tim.

Trish, I think you could do a great job writing a book about this case.

Casey, I can only say that I am sorry that more people didn’t turn out for you. I would have been there, if I could have worked it out in any way. Please plan something for Ricky to keep the awareness alive. I am still busy contacting the governor, and other representatives often about Ricky. I also let the LSJ and Detroit Free Press know what I felt about them not having any mention of your memorial service. No feedback from them yet. Casey, I too read the book, and found there were a lot of similarities to Ricky’s case. Wouldn’t it be interesting to talk to the author? How he survided, I will never know.
