Pictorial of the Search

Story Created: July 1, 2006

The Lansing State Journal, has a great pictorial up on their website of the search for Ricky Holland last 4th of July weekend. It shows how so many people came out to look for a lost little boy. It is a great tribute to the community and shows much caring and support for a family in need.

I am impressed that even children came out and actively helped with the search. The willingness of those citizens to get involved over their holiday weekend in the 90 degree  temperatures should not be forgotten and should be an example for other communities as well.

I think Ricky would have felt very loved and felt overwhelmed at the show of love and concern for him.

Ricky Holland Vanished Six Months Ago Tonight

Story Created: January 1, 2006

It is 6 months ago tonight that Tim and Lisa Holland tucked their son into bed for the night. According to Tim and Lisa Holland they watched a video with Ricky on the night of July 1st and then tucked him into bed at around 9:30 p.m.Around 8 a.m. the morning of July 2nd Lisa left to go to the store. She forgot something and returned to their home. It was at that time she asked Tim to wake the children and she left again. Tim first went to Ricky’s bedroom door and knocked telling him to get up. He then went to the kitchen to continue making breakfast. According to Tim he realized that Ricky had not yet appeared from his room so he went and opened the door to his room. It was at this point that he discovered Ricky’s bed pushed under the window, the window open and Ricky gone.

Lisa returned and they called authorities at approximately 11:00 a.m. Ricky had a habit of running away from home according to both police and the Holland’s so his disappearance was not taken very seriously in the beginning of the search. According to one person who has written on my forum authorities refused to send additional officers or detectives to the Holland home at first because of Ricky’s past runaway episodes. An Amber Alert was not issued for Ricky until sixteen hours after he was reported missing. At that point the reason for the Amber Alert was to help locate his biological mother.

Many volunteers showed up to aid in the search for Ricky. It was noted in news accounts that authorities instructed Tim and Lisa Holland to stay at home and not aid in the search for their son. I found this troubling and wondered why authorities would suggest such a thing and why any parent would agree to being stopped from searching for their child.

Also, Tim and Lisa Holland never made pleas in the mainstream media for their son’s safe return. It was later revealed to me by another person leaving comments on my forum that the reason the parents never appeared in the mainstream media was that Tim’s employer forbade him from appearing in the mainstream media citing the high security nature of his job with the United States Army.

The Holland’s have been named persons of interest in the disappearance of their adopted son, Ricky’s biological father was in custody at the time of Ricky’s disappearance and Ricky’s biological mother lived more than 100 miles away. She and her new husband have been given lie detector tests and they have both passed.

A total of four search warrants have been served on the Holland home as well as obtaining hair and fingerprint samples from them.

A 7-year-old child does not run away from home and stay gone for 6 months; especially a child that has ADD, ODD, and Bipolar Mood Disorder and was taking medication at the time of his disappearance. A child in that type of situation would have called attention to himself long ago.
